Education Lighting
The Ministry of Education have developed a series of guidelines that highlight key factors which will make an environment more comfortable for students and staff. These guidelines have been put in place to ensure lighting allows the environment to encourage learning without a negative impact from light fixtures.
HUGO lighting understands these needs and have developed products that will work comfortably within these environments.
By utilising natural daylight, lux and movement sensors plus LED fittings, the long-term cost of power will allow money to be spent on the students and not utilities.
Understanding the needs of differing departments (Technology departments, Libraries, Laboratories, Workshops, Gymnasiums and General spaces) allows designers to specify the correct product for that application.
Areas of Importance
- Colour Rendering (CRI) minimum standard of RA>80 with a range of R9 value 80+. R9 (RED) within the CRI spectrum is generally low. Within education facilities this must be brought up to 80 minimum.
- Power Factor 90%+
- LED Luminaries must have a maintained output of 70% after 50,000hr
- Uniformity Ratio between 0.5-0.7 dependent on application: Lighting uniformity is defined as the ratio between minimum to average lux, or minimum to maximum lux. ‘How the light is evenly distributed on the ground’
- UGR rating 19: Angle and amount of glare from the fitting needs to be considered.
- Colour Temperature, generally 4,000K
